#112 – Crossover

Compilation-01
Remember I promised change in my last post? I’ve kept to my words and this is the first change you’ll be seeing here on the blog. I’ve always had a love for editorials and after getting inspired by so many amazing Flickr users, I thought, why not incorporate that editorial theme further into my photos too?
And this is the first crossover between Model On A Budget and Damn, Kai! so it had to be exciting!
For this shoot I was super inspired by the haute couture mask from Vale Koer that was sold out at Project Limited last year. I knew the styling had to be modern, and so I opted for a simple studio background with simple poses. I started with my male avatar, and I knew that I wanted something structured, so I chose the Kang blazer by David Heather for the March round of TMD and completed the look with the buttondown from the label’s Seventeen suit.
For my female avatar, I wanted a complete contrast in terms of color, so I picked black as the main color, like the Tory plunge dress in onyx by Rowne, as well as the Vers platforms, again by David Heather for uber. For the handbag, it needed to be stylish, something like an it-bag, so I opted for Murray‘s Ekberg leather tote as it had a stylish silhouette, and picked it in white to contrast nicely against the dress in the photo.
Since the outfits were kinda simple, with poses that weren’t too complicating would be perfect for showcasing the items. And so with Jackson’s help, I thought it turned out pretty amazing, and I’m really happy with the results.
What do you guys think of this crossover project? Do you like it? Do you dislike it? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
Love, Kai

I just thought I’d do another action-themed shoot, cos I haven’t been doing something like this for a little while. In case you guys didn’t know, I was trying to reference spy movies where the female protagonist goes undercover to seduce corrupt government officials and then escapes the scene with guns blazing. The dress by .SALT and the shoes by G&D gave the perfect look, and I accessorized it with the most appropriate bracelet ever, a gift for The Fantasy Collective by Valentina E. Couture (such amazing stuff from the label).
By the way, change is coming, which is why you might notice that I have chose to hide a certain part of myself in this photo. Be sure to check back soon to find out!

Hey everyone, I thought I’d just do a quick and simple shoot before I go away from blogging for a month. I knew I had to do a jewelry shoot because I haven’t done one that focused mainly on accessories in a while, and in this post I’m wearing the Turquoise Coral jewelry set from BaUbLeS! by Phe. If you fancy this jewelry set, head down to the main store right away!
So sorry Phe, I haven’t been blogging your items in a while, but I do hope you like this! And for everyone else too, I hope you like it too!
Lastly, happy holidays, and I’ll see you guys in a month!
Love, Kai

Hey guys, today’s post is all about this Countess headpiece by Wicca’s Wardrobe, which has a very Asian look to it, be it Japanese or Chinese. The good thing is that it doesn’t have a specific look to it, so if you have an Oriental-themed shoot, this headpiece will be a great accessory. This look is rather simple and I was going for a more Japanese-themed shoot, so I accessorized it with the hand fan from Silvery K, a group gift from one of the underrated Japanese designers in my opinion. Do check out the Silvery K store when you can, there are numerous group gifts and also beautiful clothes to get for yourself, or for someone special this Christmas!

Hi everyone! I’ve got another closeup shot for you guys, and this time it’s to show off the extravagant and ginormous Antoinette hat by Wicca’s Wardrobe. I loved how mysterious the hat looked on me so I styled myself accordingly.
Initially I envisioned myself as a vampire after putting on this hairstyle by lamb., a Hair Fair gift, which you might be able to find at her store. I matched it with a deep shade of red lipstick by Glam Affair for the LeLutka mesh head. I had fangs on, but I decided to take them off as they were too cheesy, and slightly in-your-face. I approached it with another perspective, which was to go for a slightly more dominatrix look, which was why I completed the look with the Bastet harness, a rare item from the gacha at Pixicat. The items from the gacha are amazing, and so are the items that Pixicat sells so for those of you who haven’t been there, you should definitely take a look!

#93 – Unholy

I thought I’d try to squeeze in one last post before Halloween so this here, is my last post for October. The inspiration for this look was something evil or demonic juxtaposed against something clean, proper and holy. In this case it was the Abaddon mask from Wicca’s Wardrobe which provided the demonic aspect and having it photographed at a temple or shrine, which is a place that is associated with holiness and good.
Even the look itself is a contradicting idea in itself. The Malignant dress, from Pixicat for Collabor88, and amazing one indeed, is one that is extremely provocative, definitely not something you’ll wear to a church or a temple. I mean, just look at the chest area, if that isn’t provocative, I don’t know what that is. Thank goodness for the fake hands, otherwise this photo would be considered nudity, and I think even with this photo it might just already be bordering on nudity. I picked the white version because that would contradict the look of the dress, and with white usually associated with purity, the dress itself could be seen as both holy and unholy at the same time.
So, with a dress like that, and the mask, I asked for a holy place for photography to really create that contrast between good and evil (though the lines are kinda blurry). The pose was in contrast to the outfit, something soft and gentle, with the idea of me rising out of the water to approach the shrine, perhaps trying to challenge whether evil could enter the sanctuary of holiness and good. With that, Jackson also created the photo with a hint of iconic imagery in terms of lighting and atmosphere, and that’s how we got the photo.
I admit that this is the photo we’ve done so far that juxtaposed opposing ideas so much within one shot, and it wouldn’t have been obvious if I didn’t explain the concept of the photo. I’m rather proud of this and I hope you guys like it.
With that, happy Halloween and have a great one this year! See you soon!
Love, Kai

#92 – Apocalypse Now

Halloween season is proving to be really fun for me. I get the chance to dress up as different characters and in different styles, sometimes not in the style I would usually go for. But I take that as sort of a little lesson, on how styling myself in a certain way out of my comfort zone can help me learn more and open myself out more to the other genres.
This post was greatly influenced by one of my favorite movies this year, the over-the-top action movie, Mad Max: Fury Road, which also served as inspiration for one part of this collection released by Wicca’s Wardrobe for Halloween. I guess the idea really stuck in my head after knowing about Wicca’s inspiration so I took it and ran with it. Her pieces are named after horror movies, or characters in famous horror movies (though there are exceptions), so see if you can spot the references in her collection!
The Paige top and the Carrie skirt come from two different outfits but are both released at BOSL Fall/Winter Fashion Week 2015, together with the Psycho armpieces, while the Seska headpiece is a release for the Fantasy Collective of October. Do be sure to check them both out if you’re interested!
I love how imaginative the pieces are and that pushes me to style myself in a non-conventional way, which was quite difficult, I must admit. I spent a whole lot of time thinking about the right hairstyle to use and in the end I settled with the Viking hair from Tableau Vivant, under the category of Fantasy/Roleplay hairstyles. Once again, that aisle is not someplace I would usually go if not for this shoot so I’m rather thankful.
The makeup was rather simple and was decided upon the quickest. Like I said, I was rather inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road so I knew what makeup I wanted and thank goodness Nuuna has them.
Halloween is just around the corner! I’m so excited and I can’t wait for the day to arrive! Till then, take care!
Love, Kai
